Black-headed Gull

Black-headed Gull by Dave Pardoe
Photo copyright 2012 by Dave Pardoe

Dave Pardoe found a Black-headed Gull! Right in Maryland among a flock of Ring-billed Gulls.

This gull will have a black head in summer. In winter, it has just two spots of black showing on each side of the head, one sort of around the eye and the other behnd the eye. The orange-red bill with black tip is distinctive.

Thank you, Dave, for permission to share your photo with visitors to Birdwatching Dot Com.
