This Morning Outside

by Diane Porter

August 30, 2009
In the grass at Birdwatching Dot Com
Fairfield, Iowa

A spider must have worked all night to weave this delicate gossamer quilt for the lawn. The green circle in the center is the hole where the spider waits for prey to drop in for breakfast.

I think this was built by a funnel spider, but I'm not certain. If you know what kind of spider builds this nest, I'd be grateful to learn its identity. You could email me.
