Fairfield, Iowa

Goldfinches start nesting later than any other birds in Iowa. They wait until the thistles are setting seed, and then the birds use the fluffy thistledown to line their nests. Here are a couple of male goldfinches checking out the thistles along the trail where I walked this morning.
