This Morning Outside

by Diane Porter

June 17, 2010
In every nook of every outbuilding at Birdwatching Dot Com
Fairfield, Iowa

It's the summer of the house wren. House wrens are nesting between logs deep in the wood pile. In a hole in the wall of the workshop. Under the loose bark of a dead elm. In the rolled-up bamboo curtain that hangs outside the window. You can't step outside without hearing their crazy-happy songs.
