This Morning Outside

by Diane Porter

July 22, 2010
On the walk under the feeders at Birdwatching Dot Com
Fairfield, Iowa

A juvenile cardinal was begging from his father on the stone walk this morning.

BeakAlthough the baby's red feathers are starting to come in, he still has a stone-colored beak. It will be red like his father's when he matures.

The father is still feeding the baby, although the baby looks as if he could pick up a sunflower seed all by himself.

I haven't been seeing the female very much lately. Maybe she's sitting on another batch of eggs somewhere.
