This Morning Outside

We have rounded the far bend of winter's river and are heading now toward spring. There is a tremor of joy in everything, even the dried stems of last summer's wildflower. From the head of the downy woodpecker shines a bright red ornament.

Woodpecker's favorite!

There's a special feeder for woodpeckers that is really nice looking. It's the Suet Upside Down Feeder. Woodpeckers are fine with feeding from below, but starlings can't manage it.

Lots of our favorite small birds use it, such as downy woodpeckers, chickadeers, and nuthtaches. But not starlings or grackles.
