Lovey Doves

Eurasian Collared-Doves

Eurasian Collared-Doves

Two Eurasian Collared-Doves lit side by side.

They turned their faces toward each other

She pecked him gently on his breast.

They touched the tips of their bills.

And then there was this.

I don't think they noticed me at all.

The porcelain doves

A friend told me that these doves look to her like porcelain figurines. And I see what she means. There is something that seems pure about them.

Eurasian Collared-Doves are widespread throughout North America. Yet they are not native to this continent. They orginated in Asia. Often they are kept as captives or pets.

From Asia they spread throughout Europe and now the Americas. In Florida, I've heard, they are more abundant than any of our native doves.

Yet I have not heard folks complaining about them. It seems most people rather enjoy them, both for their beauty and their pleasant calls.
