This Morning Outside

by Diane Porter

October 22, 2018
Fairfield, Iowa

Here in Iowa, we have only one hummingbird species, the Ruby-throated Hummingbird. In 35 years, I've never seen one later than October 8.

Until yesterday, when one showed up at my feeder. All over the Iowa, birders are recording seeing Ruby-throated Hummingbirds much later than usual.

If  you're seeing hummingbirds later than usual wherever you are, I'd be interested to hear about it. If you would like to share, please let me know.
