Swarovski NL Pure 8x32 Orange
Binocular Review
Diane's Favorite
I love these 32mm NL Pure binoculars. In burnt orange, Swarovski's new alternate color.
Practical Advantages of Burnt Orange
Easy to spot in the field
If you set them down in tall grass, on a forest floor, or among gear, they’re far easier to find than green or black models—especially in low light.
Low Risk of Overheating
The matte surface diffuses sunlight, so they won’t get uncomfortably hot, unlike darker finishes that soak up heat.
They're pretty!
The tone looks slightly different depending on lighting: in bright daylight, it takes on a lively copper glow; in shade or overcast light, it appears closer to rust or terracotta.
And they're light!
They're so easy to carry. At 22.8 ounces, they're 7 ounces lighter than the 42mm NL Pures. The older I get, the more important this is to my hands and neck.
And speaking of hands...
These are the most comfortable binoculars I've ever held. The barrels narrow in just the right place. They're not round in the center. They're designed for the way human hands are positioned when holding binoculars, with the narrowing on the diagonal.
Just as bright
People often ask whether a 32mm binocular would be as bright as a full-sized binocular.
The brightness of a binocular is more determined by the quality of the optical coatings on the lenses. I've tested my 32mm NL Pures against the 42mm at twilight, and they are equally bright. The superior coatings of NL Pure lenses means virtually all of the light gets through to my eye.
Field of view
I love a wide field of view. It makes me feel as if I'm completely immersed in the scene. The binoculars disappear. I'm just right there with the bird.
Do you wear glasses?
These NL Pures have an eye relief of 18mm. That lets you see the whole field of view even with your glasses on. The variable eyecups mean that they also work for people who don't wear glasses. You can fine-tune the adjustment for eye relief that is perfect for you.
The optics
If you're thinking about getting a Swarovski, you already know there are no better optics.
Choice of colors
If you want your binoculars to really stand out, you have a choice to get them in Burnt Orange. The Burnt Orange is exactly the same as Swarovski Green, except for the color of the rubberized armoring.
In addition to its sheer beauty, the Burnt Orange model has the advantage of being easy to spot.
And some couples like to have his-and-hers binoculars that are easy to tell apart.
With either the Swarovski Green or the Burnt Orange, the matte surface is super nice. It diffuses sunlight, so they won’t get uncomfortably hot, unlike darker finishes that can sometimes soak up heat.
