No wonder the dark-eyed juncos are such a cheery sight! They move so fast across the ground that it's hard to see what they're doing with their feet. But what they're doing is bursting over the snow in a series of jumps, throwing both feet forward with each bound.

You could never have the winter blues if you jumped for joy like that.
