Eastern Wood-Pewee
Sweet-faced predator
Eastern Wood-Pewees have a soft, gentle look. But to flies they are sudden death.
Perched on a free-swinging, lichen-jeweled snag, the flycatcher can watch every direction. It flashes away and snatches an insect out of the air. Then it comes back to exactly the same spot.
