Alpen Rainier 8x32
Overall Score: 4.10 (0ut of possible 5.0)
A high quality binocular, with excellent (4.4) optics, at a moderate price.
We're singling out the Rainier for having the best eyepiece-diopter mechanism. It locks, has a numbered scale, is very easy to adjust, and, like the Swarovski, has micro-click adjustments to give tactile feedback. It's a simple, elegant solution.
The Rainier also has good eye relief and works well with glasses. The focus knob is smooth and precise, with no backlash.
Pro: Excellent optical quality at moderate price; works well with glasses; 420-foot field of view; superb diopter adjustment.
Con: Some judges remarked that the strap lugs poked into their hands.
